2018 MBA Awards Alterations & Additions $3-$4 million
BIMBADEEN (Aboriginal word for Good View) is a recently completed house at Bayview, 30 kilometres north of the Sydney CBD.
The project brief was for a bespoke and sustainable house to provide a future proof residence for a retired couple. The client was also the project architect.
Working with PPC in finalising the design, the owners obtained a Stage 1 Construction Certificate for demolition and bulk excavation while the Development Application was being processed.
In addition to the stripping back of the existing house to its masonry and structural steel frame, extensive excavation was undertaken to maintain neighbours access and allow for better materials handling for the duration of the project. The excavation is retained by an approximately 4.5m high mock rock retaining wall reinforced with galvanised mesh and approximately 40 rock anchors into the adjoining sites.
Once DA approved, PPC moved to adjusting the house to remedy the sometimes out of level and out of square structure, excavating, forming and pouring piers, forming up the myriad of slabs at various levels up the site. The passenger lift shaft and swimming pool were also formed up and poured in the early stages to facilitate site measuring of some long lead time items.
During all the above and ongoing works, PPC liaised with all neighbours to minimise disruption resulting in a seemless process from start to finish!
